Runner of the month: Amy M.

Hi, my name is Amy, I live in Belmont, and I am the runner of the month!

What’s your day job?
I teach math and statistics full time at City College of San Francisco.
How long have you been running?
I am athletic and have done many things over the years other than running to get/stay in shape. Once Andy and I became empty nesters a year and a half ago, I turned to him and said "Should we run a half marathon?". He said "Sure!" and we started running.
What are your current running goals?
My only goal is to be healthy. I am not worried about my time or speed. So, I try to run 2 or 3 times a week to maintain my heart and lung health. I guess you could call me a cross trainer, as I also do bootcamp and Zumba each a couple of times a week.
What is your favorite Bay Area race?
I have only done a few races. I have loved the energy of the Turkey Trot in San Jose. It's flat (people who know me won't be surprised by that) and there are people playing music as you run by. It's a fun way to start Thanksgiving.
What are some things that you like to do when you’re not running?
I am currently doing a graduate program in biostatistics, so that takes some time. I also like to be outdoors, go to the movies, and do puzzles of all kinds.
Where’s your favorite place to run?
Sawyer Camp Trail (thanks to Belmont Runners!)
Do you have a special warm-up or power song when running?
When I run by myself these days, I listen to podcasts instead of music. There are so many good ones out now, and so many maddening issues to discuss! It's easy to keep running with a good podcast in my ears.
Do you have any advice for someone who is just starting out with running?
I don't. It's still so new to me that I feel like I need the advice.
