Runner of the month: Jonathan W.

Hi, my name is Jonathan, I live in Belmont, and I am the runner of the month!

I am a scientist developing molecular tests for the detection of cancer and other diseases
How long have you been running?
About 20 years, once I stopped playing cricket.
What are your current running goals?
We have the Rodeo Beach trail run in December so getting my distance back up to 20k.
What is your favorite Bay Area race?
Enjoyed the Giants Race and trail runs all round the Bay Area.
What are some things that you like to do when you’re not running?
In the winter, snowboarding, and Kaycia and I are enjoying getting to know the Belmont area - which being a member of Belmont Runners has really helped with.
Where’s your favorite place to run?
The Water Dog Park trails and for something different the upper trail through Purisima, a nearby run through the redwoods.
Do you have a special warm-up or power song when running?
No sorry.
Do you have any advice for someone who is just starting out with running?
Take your time, it's easier with a group, enjoy it! I used a Couch to 5k program to get back into running after surgery. This guides you through weekly runs, managing the distance and effort you put in to allow recovery while progressing.
