Runner of the month: Jon VanHorn

Hi, my name is Jon VanHorn, I live in Belmont, and I am the runner of the month!

What is your role in the run club?
I organize the weekly group runs, create the running routes, and run the social media accounts (FB, IG, and Strava).
What is your day job?
I am a Wind Tunnel Test Engineer at NASA Ames Research Center.
How long have you been running?
I ran track in high school, but have been running consistently as an adult since 2013. Running has actually helped me lose around 60 pounds!
What are your current running goals?
Overall it is to stay injury free. I really want to tackle the 100k and 100 mile distances in the next year.
What is your favorite Bay Area race?
I really like the North Face Endurance Challenge up in Marin. It has a distance for everybody (5k to 50miles). A lot of the elite ultra-runners I follow show up to run and it is just a beautiful (and hard) course.
What do you do when you are not running?
I love exploring the Bay Area, finding new breweries or wineries, going to concerts, and hanging out with friends.
Where is your favorite place to run?
Probably the Marin Headlands. There is so much variety and the area is just so amazing.
Advice for fellow runners?
Do not get discouraged. Set goals and work towards them. There will be ups and downs, but just keep going!
